Phil and Julie crossed the border from N S W into Queensland yesterday and are only 2000K away and heading home. Time for us to start dusting the unit! We reckon they will be back in about 2 weeks tho they could be here sooner if they wished.
We spent the morning in Cairns buying a couple of good quality folding chairs for the van, somebody broke the others. We had coffee at our favourite coffee shop opposite the lagoon on Cairns esplanade whilst people watching, another of our favourite pastimes.
The visitors are slowly starting to arrive , Japanese, Chinese and Koreans mostly just yet, but we are also starting to see a few more campervans and caravans heading north. The grey nomads have reappeared from under their cosy southern stones , won’t be long before we hear the constant drone of their aircon units emanating from their vans.
We will head in the opposite direction to begin with before we return here later in the year.
Lamb curry for tea then that will be the end of one raffle prize with one more to go.

We took off for a day out to Mission Beach this morning, a distance of approx 165K, but it proved a mission too far as we were a bit late getting away. It has been a bit of a dreary day, overcast and showery but we are suffering from cabin fever and need to get out.
Our first stop was Babinda noted for being one of the wettest towns in North Queensland, it didn’t let us down.
Next we drove through Innesfail to the tiny harbour Mourilyan which turned out to be a port used for shipping out timber and sugar. It did have a small fishmongers so we pushed the boat out so to speak, and bought some coral trout. Very expensive but worth every cent. Back into Innesfail for lunch then drove home. Probably a 250K round trip, a long way for a piece of fish!

Coffee morning turned into a post mortem on Lorraines non selection for councillor in the weekend elections. There was a conclusion but too boring and too complicated for this blog, but the coffee was good.
We were given a big bag of banana prawns (frozen) a few days ago and as Jane managed to leave half the shopping behind in the supermarket this morning we boiled some of them up as a starter before dinner. We have always BBQ ‘d banana prawns before so today was a first. Very good they were, still about 1Kg left in the freezer. With only days to do before we hit the road we really have to set about eating the contents of our freezer…….oh, and stop buying raffle tickets!
