Anzac Day and BBQs
25/04/2012
Anzac Day, a very emotional day for Australians with many people attending dawn parades around war memorials throughout the country. The traditional game of two up is played in the R S L clubs, I think it is the only day of the year when it is permitted to be played, I think it is illegal any other time.
We all gathered at Paul’s house for a BBQ at lunchtime which went on until after dark and many schooners later. We wobbled off home and went to bed at 9 30, not remembering much!

Busy, busy after about 9 hours sleep. Got most of the grass cut and spread the remainder of the sand from the sandbag flood defences. It dare not rain now in any quantity!
We needed to stock up on essential supplies for our forthcoming BBQ this weekend, we will worry about food later.
We have also begun making plans for when we go walkabout later in May. The van needs a good mucking out which Jane started today.

Visits to centrals rugby club on Fridays are getting monotonous, we only won the first prize in the meat raffle again. This time it was a huge BBQ tray of steak, lamb chops, bacon and snags. Not long after the draw we were entered into a free raffle for members, the prize was either $600 or a 6 pack……..just choose a card from a locked cabinet and if you get the joker it’s $600.…..the beer shaded it. Had a good chat with Frank, Julie and daughter Kim. The house swap is a definite for Aug 2013.

Up at the crack of 8 -25 to get ourselves organised for our BBQ. This was just for our friends, plus Steve and Charlotte from Yorkeys knob. 7 of us in the end as Warwick and his handicapped daughter couldn’t make it.
We had a lovely afternoon with lots of good BBQ food which I managed to cook to perfection. It was cooked whilst plying them with lots of drink and making them sit in the sunshine with very little shade. If you get them all “with drink” and too much sun they will not have a clue if the lamb/beef/ chicken is cooked or not…..that’s my theory anyway!
As we are all members of the boat club we decided to call the bus to take us there……the rest is a blurr.

The blur continued as we carried on where we left off last night in the boat club after having steak sandwiches for brekkie, left over from the BBQ.
Later we sat on the beach and commiserated with Lorraine after her failure to get elected for Cairns District Council. Although she stood as an Independent it seems the voters in Queensland have well and truly had enough of the Australian Labour party and voted for the opposition.
Cairns now has a new Mayor and a new council and come the next general election I can see the ruling labour party getting booted out. It won’t be much of a surprise as the welsh witch, prime minister, Julia Gillard is a moron.
