So that was Easter then, not quite like home, it didn’t snow for a start. Having spent the long weekend not doing a lot, we buckled down to a few jobs. The wet is not officially over but as good as and its left a lot of black mould and mildew to be cleaned away. Out with the scrubbing brush, I have a power washer in the offing which will make life easier.
We are still trying to resolve the problem of our security exit lights but have now passed the problem on to our leaders in Brisbane.
Had a chat with Phil and Jules, they are still getting crap weather down south, quite cold. They are setting off west at the weekend in search of warmer weather. Hope they find it as we are beginning to feel guilty enjoying all this terrific weather.

The weather has been superb these last couple of weeks and and yesterday I walked up to the stinger net for a swim in the sea, not done that for some time. Today they took the stinger net down so we are thinking that that’s the last of the nasty jelly fish for the season. Not so, they took the net away as a precaution, heavy seas and bad weather forecast for the next few days…….bugger! The wet seems to be having it’s final fling. We called in at Pauls house after the boys morning coffeeto pick a bag of grapefruit and some chillis straight from the bush. The chillis are highly dangerous we are told.
We lunched in Cairns Shopping Mall and sat next to an Asia woman woman who proceeded to breastfeed her sprog, put me off me kebab it did1Food hall it may have been but ……yuk. It rained this evening, yippee, no need to get the sprinkler out.

Rained all day and I am paranoid it will flood us again. I keep checking the creek and the storm drain every half an hour or so. Bring back the sandbags!!
Last weeks swordfish steaks were a real success so we decided to, have a look at one of the other fishmongers down by the docks. We bought some crimson snapper which turned out to be a bit of a disappointment. So far all the fish we have tried in Oz has had a firm meaty texture, very tasty though. The snapper we had turned out to be too meaty. We have yet to find a delicate fishlike dover sole or plaice that we get in the northern hemisphere. Maybe there is such a thing, we just haven’t found it yet.

The Riley luck holds out!……. well it does when it comes to meat raffles. We met up with Paul, Lorraine, Frank and Julie at the rugby club for a few cold ones and walked away with first prize in the raffle. There is still some steak in the freezer and now it has been joined by an enormous leg of lamb and some bacon. Our local butcher won’t be speaking to us soon.
An uneventful day due to heavy showers, though I did manage to cut some of the grass in between the rain. They are forecasting local flooding over the next few days, panic is hovering!

Severe weather warning, over 200mmrain forecast for later tonight, just when we thought it was all over. I had finished cutting the grass when we heard the news so it was a case of put the mower away then grab some sack and a spade , over to the beach and fill them with sand. I have filled enough to secure our unit, the other 2 units can take their chances. If they flood , well we know what we will be doing for the next few days, at least we have lifted what we can off the floors, there shouldn’t be too much damage.
The forecast didn’t stop us taking our weekend trip to the boat club where we sit on the deck watching the weather closing in.
So far (9 o’clock)no worries, midnight is the time it is supposed to all happen.

Glyn came round this morning to apologise for the duff information he gave us regarding the severe weather warning yesterday, not that it was his fault, he just passed the info on. Instead of 200mm we had a big zero “nothing” dry all night! All I got to show for it was a bad back from sandbag filling . Mind you it has rained for most of the day today, but not torrential.
Because of the beautiful part of the coast here at Clifton Beach we get many beach weddings and there was one this afternoon. No idea who it was but you had to feel sorry for them as it tipped down with rain all through the ceremony. I suppose they were taking a chance having a beach wedding in the wet season.

Rain, rain, rain, just like being in Wales. The threat of being flooded seems to have passed but no way am I moving the sandbags just yet.
Jane is getting better on her legs every day and only wears her moon boot occasionally, I can see her getting on the pink bike soon but not before I have fitted an umbrella and mudguards.
We would have gone out for day trips this week but we have to stay in and wait for a builder who is coming someday soon . He has to cut a hole in the upstairs ceiling so the electrician can get into the roof space to check the emergency lights wiring. Meanwhile we are getting a little bored!
