Preparations for the road
17/04/2012
No more rain, it’s official, we have been meteologically briefed by the equivalent of Mr Fish on tele. Back to normal today, hot and humid.
We are just about 4 weeks away from being back on the road again so it’s time to get the motor home up to scratch. It’s had new tyres and been serviced, we have washed the seat covers but I still have to sort out the mossie net on one of the windows. Also, somebody broke one of our fold up chairs so I set off to look at some new ones in the camping shops in Cairns. We will buy them soon.
Seeing that the weather has turned for the better, Jane has bitten the bullet and done a couple of laps of the village on the pink bike. No repercussions, so with any luck I won’t have to go shopping every day, she can carry it all back in her basket.
We actually got in the pool this arvo, bloody cold water!!

The scent from the blossom on our gum trees is overpowering, quite sickly but the bats love it. So much so they are now arriving before 3 o’clock in the afternoon causing mayhem in the tree tops. We wish they would hurry up and eat it all and move on as it’s such a mess in the morning.
My coffee morning was good as we had a full compliment, Frank, Paul, Cynthia and Alan and Allen, politics being the main topic of conversation. Allen’s’ Lorraine is standing for Cairns council as an Independent.
Frank is very keen to do a house swap with us later in 2013, something we have discussed before and it looks like it might be a goer.

The bats are now a real nuisance, clearing up after them is no joke. We spoke to our old friend Dougie the vet, when he stopped by for a chat last night. He was telling us about the virus bats carry and how dangerous it is. I now wear gloves when I pick up the debris the bats knock down from the Malaleucas as droppings contain the bat fluids that carry the disease. But, as usual, there is nothing you can do about them as they are a protected species, animal rights and bunny huggers rule the world! They are evil and smelly…….the bats are no better.
The very nice man who reads the weather forecast reconfirmed last night that the wet is definitely over, and the weather is back to normal whatever that is, maybe the rate the grass grows will slow down.
The van is now mossie proofed, I fixed it today so we should be safe from catching malaria, can’t say the same about hendra virus.

It’s Friday and this last week would have been our first opportunity to get away for a day or two, since Jane broke her leg and she is nearly back to full racing pace again. Unfortunately we have waited in all week for a builder who did not show. Some things never change.
Our weekly trip to the rugby club yielded nothing in the raffle this week but we had a good chat with Frank about the house swap in the next couple of years. We reckon it’s a great proposition and a great way to continue our contacts and trips to Queensland.
