Another quiet,(wet) week

27/0/2012
It rained most of the day, a good day to get some of my inside jobs done after a Bunnings fix. That store is amazing, they are nationwide and, all huge stores, and I reckon you can buy every mortal thing there to do with D I Y. Luckily I forgot something so I have to go back again tomorrow!

Another rainy day, which is what we expected when we decided to stay here through the wet. It’s about 12 30 midnight as I write and the temperature is around 23/25C, no need of a duvet yet!
With old Stumpy  grounded for the next few weeks we are always looking for things she can do. To-days task was to get logged into face book, she can do that sitting down. We think we are in but are still not sure whether we have done it properly. If it works it may be another mans of communication, seeing as nobody seems to read our blog (faithful followers excepted). Only one comment so far.

Lots of feedback from ‘arsebook, pity I don’t understand it. I suppose I will get the hang of it eventually
Coffee morning at Clifton shopping mall, which makes a pleasant change, though the conversation invariably comes round to the groups time spent in the police force. The chat is interesting and now and then I chuck in my two penny worth about some of my experiences with my clients at Long Lartin Prison.  Another very wet and humid day, the novelty is wearing a bit thin now!

Thursday is usually my day for shoving the mower up and down, but because it has been so wet, today was a non starter. It bucketed down in the night adding to the total for the months rainfall of 285mm, most of it coming in the last few days.  So, I ended up pushing Stumpy around the shopping mall in one of their complimentary wheelchairs. We were reliably informed the mall is exactly1K from end to end. I did it twice, not always with the leg iron on board, it still counts as exercise.
We were given 5 coconut trees by a mad Frenchwoman  who lives nearby, so I spent more energy planting them……..when will it all end?….work!

Trying to catch up on yesterdays chores between the downpours. Got most of it done before it was time to report for weekend drinks at centrals rugby club. Stumpy went off to Palm Cove for a girlie night out whilst I got on it at Centrals. All Good!

Woke up a fuzzy, probably something to do with the weather. The torrential rain seems to have moved on and left us with the odd shower or two and so finished the mowing this morning.
Met my brother Steve at the boat club and spent a very pleasant afternoon on the deck overlooking the marina. ( Still the same boats) It really is a fabulous spot, not at all like the snooty yacht club in the U K. This is Yorkeys Knob only drinking den and so is used by everyone. Even if they are not sailors or boat owners, the beer is cheap as is the food, but it does have the ubiquitous TV screens everywhere, typical of all Aussie clubs and pubs.
Spent more frustrating time trying to find my way around Facebook. It’s supposed to be easy, well it probably is if you are 13!

A beautiful day, wall to wall sunshine and very hot. Fortunately not too many jobs, leaving plenty of time for lounging around on the airbed in the pool topping up the tan. Even got Stumpy in there with her pink flotation leg.
We are on top of everything regarding the cleanliness and maintenance of the units, easy when there aren’t any guests. We have a visit from one of the big white chiefs from Brisbane tomorrow, checking up on us I suppose but under the pretext of an excessive electricity bill this last quarter. Bollocks really, they just want to have a bit of a nosey. No worries, what can they do? Sack us?
Sunday is usually drink night with Lorraine and Allen but they cried off tonight so me and the leg iron just sat by the pool in the late afternoon, drank some beer and chewed the cud. This isn’t far removed from paradise.

Our visitor from Brisbane came and went, seemingly very happy with the way we are performing. I managed to get my two penny worth in regarding improvements to the property but it involves them spending money, so I reckon it fell on deaf ears. You never know though. He appeared suitably impressed with my screening the fence at the end of the pool by planting lots of quick growing shrubs and plants. That hasn’t cost them anything as I have moved plants and thinned out from other areas. Very soon the pool will be nice and privately secluded. We had another visitor today……..another Queen…….this time the giant cruise ship the Queen Elizabeth ll parked out in the bay.  As with the Queen Mary, she only stayed for a day
Jane spoke to Phil this morning, they are in the south of N S Wand although the weather there isn’t great, they are not anywhere near the floods of south east Queensland. We have been very lucky not having the monsoons that usually occur here in the tropics, but there is time yet. Autumn officially started on the 1st of the month so the threat of cyclones is diminishing, but it can still come some wet.
