Tues 11 August… It seems to have taken all day to do two 10 minute jobs. We had to be at the garage in Rockhampton for 10 o’clock so they could assess and order any spare parts needed for repair. After dropping the van off we then got a lift in their courtesy car to a shopping mall on the outskirts of town. We just needed to do some shopping whilst we waited for a phone call to say they had finished. We already know it’s only a 10 minute inspection so by 12 30 we rang them. They would ring us back around 2 o’clock they said. Four hours in a shopping mall is enough to drive us to drink so we went for a haircut instead! We decided to walk back into town, about an hours walk, and just as we decided to have some lunch they rang to say they were actually doing the job. The parts consisted of 2 rubber bushes and 2 U brackets, cost $32. We got back there about 3 pm to be given a bill for $264 which Peter returned quite smartly. After a bit of a discussion they reappraised the bill and we settled on $128 much more realistic. At least the job is done at long last.
Back at Yeppoon Vanessa and the boys have had a much more interesting day, having visited a wildlife park, where the boys cuddled a croc and stroked a koala. Much better than wandering aimlessly around a mall! We have decided that we are as far north as we can go without overstretching. Time to turn around.
