Surfin' Agnes Waters

Fri 14 August… The kangaroos were a no show last night so we had to settle for the kookaburras and their chorus at dusk, don’t know how many there are but they are very noisy! And they were at it again at 5 30am this morning!!
Later this morning we visited the Town of Seventeen Seventy, it’s a beautiful place, so no wonder the 2 camp sites there are full up. Seventeen Seventy is another part of the Queensland coast that was discovered and mapped by James Cook around that time. Originally Cook named it Bustard Head, after they shot one and ate it,( it’s like a big turkey,) and he declared it the best meat he had tasted in months! It was only changed to Seventeen Seventy about 30 years ago. Until then there was nothing there, not even a telephone line. People just used to camp and fish there. After a quick drive to the headland we went for a short stroll along the boardwalk. We decided it was too hot for walking about and so came back to Agnes Waters beach for the rest of the day.
We all had great fun in the surf and the boys are now very proficient on the body boards, which is bad news as we hardly get a go on them now. Play was interrupted and then abandoned when Grandad head butted the sea bed, diving through the waves and copped a bloody nose! We did laugh!! Later whilst chatting to a local lady she was saying that this winter has been exceptionally warm, it’s always nice but this year it’s very nice. Long may it last.
