Sun 2 August… Travelled another 200K’s north today to another beach side van park called Elliott heads, not far from Bundaberg. It was quite a nice drive for the first 90 odd K’s through forestry and a National Park until we reached Maryborough which looked interesting except it was shut! We were in the desperate situation of being down to our last nights supply of V B and needed re-supplied urgently. We called into the Tourist Info office only to be told that there was nowhere open, and this is a “Hip and Happy Town” so the sign said, “the happiest town in Queensland” How can they be that happy if you can’t get a carry out on a Sunday! Caught a glimpse of the statue of Mary Poppins as the author (who’s name escapes me) grew up there. She was a bit of a recluse and hated the Disney version. All riveting stuff this!! On through Childers which also didn’t show much sign of life. Bundaberg came next, but we turned off to Elliott Heads before reaching the town. By now panic had set in. Luckily we found a bottlo on the outskirts and paid top dollar for a slab $42 for 24 bottles, nearly $10 more than last weeks!
Here at Elliott Heads we can once again hear the surf from our van and have been to investigate the beach. There is 1 small sheltered beach then round the headland is one enormous sandbar which stretches a good distance along the Elliott River. We have found another very nice spot.
A bit remote and no internet. Wonder what’s happening in the cricket!
