Caloundra Sunshune Coast

… Fri 21 August… Today we moved further south and now we are in striking distance of Brisbane and the airport. We were sorry to leave Rainbow beach as it is high up on our list of favourite places we have visited in the last 5 weeks, so much so we are going back again next week on our way back up north. We have driven down to Caloundra which is the southern end of the Sunshine Coast. Another busy part of this Queensland coast. We took a detour off the main highway to follow the coast road down and flirted with Noosa Heads which is famous for something, then Coolum Beach, Maroochydore before arriving in Caloundra. It’s a bit similar to the Gold Coast in as much as all the resorts are linked except it doesn’t have the nasty high-rise blocks and American tackiness like the Gold Coast. The site we are on is not one of the best, it just seems a bit grubby but it will do for 2 nights. After we arrived we needed to do a bit of shopping then we strolled through the town to book our tickets for Steve Irwin’s “Australia Zoo” tomorrow. One last fling for the boys before they fly home. We then walked a board walk along the shoreline, which was really nice with the beaches and surf looking good. It turned out to be a longer walk than we expected so we reckon we earned our After Boardwalk V B’s today. We were too late for Aggie tonight, as dinner was later and we have to get up early to catch a bus in the morning to the zoo.
