Back to Townsville

Tues 30 June… Last nights in van entertainment started with a squeal, as the Navigator was accosted by a by the biggest, hairiest, ugliest ………brown spider we have ever seen. The sort of beast David Attenborough would get to play with in his wild life programmes on TV. It was as big as a saucer and no it wasn’t on the end of a bit of elastic. Never thought to photograph it as we were more intent on seeing it off the premises. Peter tried to gather it up with a tissue but it proved very quick on it’s legs, but made the wrong move and went to the screen door and he was able to bat it off. It just left us to tangle with lots of strands of silk. Had a bit of a scout round this morning in case he had stowed away again but we couldn’t find him.
We enjoyed our short stay in Northern Queensland and are sorry to leave, we like the tropics. We could be back in a few weeks time. We have returned to Townsville, but stopped off for coffee about 60K’s north at the Frosty Mango, a road house where you can have mango flavoured everything. There is mango ice cream, mango cheesecake, and they make mango jam and also banana jam (which looked revolting). Meanwhile, the site in Townsville that sort of has WiFi, we stayed there on our way north, is full. The grey Nomads are still leaving Victoria and N S W in their hordes looking for the sun and generally clogging the place up. It’s also Townsville show this week. We managed to find another site in the south of Townsville. Absolutely fine except no WiFi, though we managed to check emails on their computer. Still, Sydney should be empty when we get there! Cold, but empty.
