Sat 13 June.. Not nearly as cold as it’s been but a heavy dew this morning.
According to what we have read there is a fair bit to see here in Charters Towers, certainly the buildings are good to look at, not quite Art Deco but nearly. Things to see------ yes-----but the museum doesn’t open at weekends and if you haven’t done your shopping by lunchtime you will have to go without until Monday as everything closes except the pubs clubs and bottlo’s. We took ourselves off to Burdekin weir for lunch which is 13Ks out and the main water supply for the town. It’s different to other dams we have visited as it is fenced off ad you can only view it from the car park. There are also signs saying “absolutely no swimming” as there are crocodiles, but Peter doesn’t believe them! He says we are too far away for crocs. We didn’t put a toe in the water!
We have found out that there is a courtesy bus that will take us to the R S L Club this evening ( we seem to be making a bit of a habit of this) so we have to do it. We get lumped together with a few other grey nomads who are very entertaining as we take the piss out of each other and generally have a craic! We had a very nice meal but the place shut at 8 pm ! All back on the bus, despite not having seen even the first half of the Aus/Italy game (rugby)
