Arriving in Townsville

Sun 14 June… Just a shortish hop and we’ve done it! We have arrived on the East Coast at Townsville. It’s taken us just 18 days to traverse the country from West to East and it would have been quicker had we not decided to go bush and travel up to the Gulf of Carpentaria. We are back in the tropics, just, or “ the dry” as it’s know here, only 1 and a half hours south of Cairns.
It was foggy when we woke up this morning, but soon cleared to a beautiful day. The journey to Townsville was more interesting than the last couple of days, it’s more mountainous with the hills covered with tropical rainforest ------- a very lush green. It didn’t take long to get here so we drove straight into the city and parked up before going for a mooch. Townsville is much bigger than we expected with lots to see, so we will hang around here for a while and may be check out some diving, we are on the Barrier reef now after all! Our campsite is 7Ks out of town and quite full mostly people from the south, S A, Victoria and N S W escaping their winter. We gather it’s going to be like this for a couple of months until the Nomads bugger off home.
