Tanning Days

Wed 6 May…. A bugger about day today with no particular agenda other than to buy a case of cleanskins Sauv blanc we saw on offer. At just under $10 a bottle it’s a south Australian reserve which we have had before and it’s very nice. We called into Tourist info office and booked onto a day trip to Cape Leveque which is at the very top of the Dampier Peninsula. It’s a 4WD trip, looks very good and we go on Sunday. Checked our emails at the internet café. One from B B with news of Newbold, it’s great to be kept up to date with what’s going on at home. We are expecting some mail from Perth and the U K to be delivered to the P O here in Broome and so we went to pick it up. Peter had a very nice letter from someone in Adelaide, addressed to Mr P Riley, unfortunately it was for a Mr Philip Riley all a bit embarrassing but not our fault. Had lunch at the town beach which is a lot smaller than we expected but we did watch a couple of Ospreys who have nested on a purpose built platform there. Then we took a ride to Ganthaume Point, which is a super place. Very rocky and picturesque with nesting ospreys here as well, up the lighthouse tower. There are dinosaurs footprints in the rocks which look suspiciously like concrete. They must have walked in it! (douthinktheysaurus?) Then an après tour beer on the way home at the Divers Tavern which does not refer to scuba but to pearl diving. Booked in for another week. We think we like it here!
Thurs 7 May… Had a lovely evening last night. We have discovered that whilst we are listening to our C Ds on the flip top, we can get a rolling slide show on the shiny thing of a random selection of our photos. There is no pattern to it and it covers picture taken in our kitchen at home, prior to going grouse shooting, then to Australia and New Zealand. We had great fun naming the places as they appeared whilst listening to Coldplay and Oasis. We also watched the DVD of our diving holiday in the Red Sea, so we had the shiny thing on the van step and sat outside in the dark, watching. Today another tanning day on the beach, again too windy for the igloo. Low tide was at 4 pm and it was a bit of a hike for a dip , but we coped.
