Chilling out in Broome

Mon 4 May…. Drove into Broome and walked around Chinatown for a while. Broome is famous for it’s pearls and pearl diving. It was done the old fashioned way with copper diving helmets and very heavy boots Peter tried to pick one up but it felt as though it was nailed to the floor really heavy. It was mainly Orientals that did the diving, must have only had small suits. A lot died doing the job and there are cemeteries full off them.
Found an internet café and sent off some bloggs and then found the port area. As we drive around we realise there is quite a lot to see it certainly looks an interesting town. We went for a pub lunch “ Zanders” on cable beach and left stuffed! It was all we could do to flop into the pool when we got back to camp.
Everybody raves about the sunsets over the ocean here so we thought we had better take a look. We wandered back to the beach for 5 15 and stayed to see the sunset at around 5 30 along with lots of other folk. It was a very nice sunset but we think it could be bettered if we have a nice bottle of something next time. Photos to follow!
Tues 5 May….. Another day on the beach with absolutely nothing to report of any consequence! We have both turned another shade of brown.
