On The Beach

Sat 2 May…. Today is a day for sun, sand and sea, and if we like it we may do it again. It’s a 2 min drive to the car park at Cable Beach then down the steps with towels, books and the pop-up igloo which the navigator bought back in February. It’s not been out of it’s bag except for a trial pop-up and fold away. We choose a spot on the beach which could be anywhere as there are not too many people about and it’s a huge beach. There is a bit of a breeze which turns the igloo into a parachute and causes a few sharp words as to which way round it should go. Eventually it gets pegged down and a half ton of sand for ballast stops it floating away, though it does look a bit distorted. The rest of the day we spend topping up the tan, swimming in the Indian Ocean ( water temp 30 degrees) and reading our books until it’s time to fold up the igloo. Somehow we manage to get it back in it’s bag, a minor triumph. It was such a pleasure to get in and out of the water without stones and rocks to scramble over and no worries about sharks, crocs, or stingers.
Sun 3 May….. Just another day in paradise, more sun, sea and sand, but a little windier today so we left the igloo in it’s bag and hired 2 loungers and a beach brolly. We christened the Boogie Boards today first time in the sea since we got them in chilly Warnambool in early December. It wasn’t very good surf but we still managed to look like pratts trying to balance on them. We need a small boy to show us how it’s done!
