Arriving in Broome

Fri 1 May… Everyone at Fitzroy Van Park seemed to be on a mission this morning, like us. We got up extra early as we had a long way to go and to get some miles in before the heat of the day. So did everybody else, in fact some had already left by 6 30! We did get a good start and arrived in Broome about 1 30. It was an easy run really, more scrub and termite mounds, cows mostly alive but the odd one dead. Evidence in places of back burning of the grass , which they do annually here. It keeps the fuel load down which helps to reduce the risk of bush fires. The wedge tailed eagles are ever present especially when there is fire as their prey is easily visible . They have been known to pick up smouldering twigs to start their own fires in a different place!
This site, at Broome is about 5 mins walk to Cable beach, which is the 5th best beach in the world apparently! After checking in we need to shop then we go and look at the beach. It is fabulous. Navigator can’t wait to dip her toes in the Ooloo! Last stinger reported June 08!After the red of the dessert and central Australia, the beach is pure white. Such a contrast. We have already sussed a beach bar for further investigation ( to watch the sunsets you understand) and we could be here for some time!
