Flittin!

Fri 15 May… We were paid up until today on the site at Cable beach and although we have no complaints we decided on a change of scenery. We are not quite Broomed Out and so decided to stay for 1 more week but at a site 6Ks down the beach. It’s a little closer to town and the port and it’s also closer to our favourite butcher. There is only the one in town if you don’t count the supermarkets. This camp also boasts Wifi and we believe them. Anyway we parked up and fired up this shiny thing with a 1 hour credit we had from another site which had the same network. It didn’t work there, hence the credit. It does appear to work here so we may be in luck. After getting sorted here and we had done our shopping earlier, we head for the beach. There is some excitement by the car park, as a gang of blokes armed with ropes are trying to entice some creature out of the shrubbery. Eventually, the biggest boar pig either of us has ever seen appeared, god knows where it came from or what it was doing there, but it was all of 25 score with attitude! It took half a dozen blokes to wrestle it to the ground and hog tie it before lifting it into a trailer to take it away. Quite exciting and peter thinks he’s got a few good photos. Good job it was a silent movie, what with the pig squealing and the boys swearing!!!!!!! Onto the beach for a while before it got really cloudy which drove us to the pub!
Sat 16 May… Our new site is fine with just the odd foible or two, you need good eyesight to see the numbers on the keypad to get into the toilets and the water tap is about 50 M away and our hose isn’t that long! We had an infestation of flying ants last night just as we were cooking dinner on George the Gorilla, and had to beat a hasty retreat indoors. It’s a sign of rain on the way so we were told. A dull start to the day, still warm but not a day for the beach. We went off to visit a Bird Observatory unfortunately it was 15K down a rough track and not a road for our old van so a change of plan and a trip to the port area where we parked up for a couple of hours. We walked the length of the jetty and watched people fishing, we could actually see quite a few big fish near the surface but they didn’t want to play. We only saw 1 fish of any size landed a barramundi which we think was for sale but as we already bought some Crimson snapper for tea we didn’t need anymore fish. Also at the end of the jetty was a café selling half price oysters between 2 and 5pm, so that we couldn’t refuse!
The nearest pub to this camp site is in town so that’s where we head next for our after beach beer, it’s not compulsory to go on the beach for an A B B! This pub is again typically Oz with a TV in each corner all showing something different, background music and a bookies! The beer is only $5 pint so we put up with the noise. That’s the cheapest pint that we can remember from anywhere in Oz. Home for oysters and fish for tea!
