Lazy Days

Tues 12 May… just a day on the beach is called for today. High tide is at midday so 2 hour either side we don’t have far to walk to the sea from our sun beds! It’s really tough at the moment and we have had to put up with a partly cloudy day. This generally means a good sunset --it was --but we were in the pub and watched it from the bar.
Wed 13 May… Spent the morning mooching about in town, we have found a decent second hand book shop that buys and exchanges books. We got a fair deal on our books and came away with our next library which should keep us quiet for a week or two.
We had called in a travel agent last week to put a few feelers out on Heron Island which is off the North Queensland coast. We plan to visit there with Vanessa and the boys in August. The travel agent has come up with a quote that seems fair, so we will go away and discuss it with a view to booking it.
It’s quite cloudy today and not really a day for the beach so we drove to the town beach for lunch and a look at the mangroves at high tide. Peter got into conversation with a couple of locals, just general chat but mostly about fishing, the national pastime. He was pleasantly surprised by the offer of a bottle of beer which turned our to be Strongbow, first cider since last September. They just stood around the pick up nattering and having a drink. it was surprising how much there was in common. Navigator just sat and read the newspaper. Well, it was a boy thing! On the way home called in for a beer at the Divers tavern and chatted about the logistics of Vanessa’s trip and how much longer we may stay in Broome.
Thurs 14 May first stop today is the travel agent and we have a result. We have the deal we wanted on heron island and it is booked-----something extra special to look forward to.
We have lost the cloud cover there has been over the last 2 days, and we are back to clear blue skies, hot sunshine and a nice breeze. An afternoon on the beach seems to be the right thing to do though the water temperature is definitely going down. Now only around 26 degrees Couple of beers in the pub on the way back to base.
