Darwin

Good Friday Another very hot and humid night last night we have the aircon going during the evening but it is too noisy to sleep with it on. The weather according to the local press is having a bit of a blip. It has been hot and dry for the last 2 to 3 weeks, but suddenly it has changed back to wet season weather 36 C and humid, dropping to 28C at night. We are having to use the Eskie to keep the fruit and veg cool as there is not enough room in the fridge The blue freezer blocks are useless so we have frozen bottles of water in the freezer in the camp kitchen to put in the Eskie. We then drink the water as it melts.
Had our first trip into Darwin first impressions are very good, the centre of town is very quiet as most shops are closed for Easter! There are a couple of pubs and a few coffee shops open , no public transport and even the Tourist Info was closed. We had a good mooch around having found a place to park on the Esplanade ( good to see the sea again!) We fond what looks like a good internet café, a good second-hand book shop, and the tourist Info Office. We also found an office where you could book touristy trips, but the one we fancied was full until Tuesday.
Drove to Mindil Beach but not much to see there so continued to Fannies Bay lots of people here, around a park lake whilst no one was in the sea. We drive back inland and visit Howard Springs a local nature reserve and swimming lake. We spot a couple of wallabies but as Peter tried to creep up on them, they hopped it! No luck with the swimming either. So far we have not been allowed to swim in the lake at Edith Falls------Crocs, Swimming in the sea at fannies bay is a no no-------Box Jellyfish, and we can’t swim at Howard Springs-----Green/Blue Algae!! So back to camp and the good old swimming pool. It closes on Monday for repairs!
