Thurs 9 April The heat and humidity (average 75%) is unbelievable at the moment. When we came up through the arid red centre it was hot, but here in the tropics it is so humid the sweat just pumps out. Last night was quite uncomfortable and the towels we left outside were more damp this more damp this morning than after we had been swimming last night! It’s good drinking weather though!
It’s only a short drive today, we are booked into the Boomerang Caravan Park about half an hours drive south of Darwin. There are 2 sites closer to Darwin but they are very near to the airport. Here we have some road noise but it’s not too bad. We do an essential supplies shop in Palmerston, a suburb of Darwin, as it’s Easter weekend and we are not sure of shop opening times. We are surprised to find that the Bottlo opens earlier here (10 am as opposed to 2 pm in Tennant Creek and Katherine) It does appear to be quite a prosperous area and there aren’t many indigenous people around. We still had to show I D and it’s written down by the assistant, who asks us where we are going to drink it!
The Boomerang is O K ish, not as nice as Adelaide river but it does have the obligatory swimming pool which we have tested. As usual, no WiFi, just a lend of the camp Laptop to check emails, at a price. A reasonable mobile signal, we have loads of Photos and blogs to send but when we will do is anybodies guess.
