Adelaide River

Wed 8 April…..there is just 1 more touristy thing to do around Katherine before we go and that is to see the Edith Falls which is north of Katherine and on our way. We have lost patience and money with the none WiFi here at Katherine, we never did get connected. So a bit of shopping and off we go. It’s a 20k detour off the highway to Edith Falls and when we get there it is as good as shut . It is a beautiful spot, a big lake with falls 150Macross the other side which you can swim to. Well you could if there weren’t any crocodiles! They have closed the lake for swimming, and they have closed the footpath around the lake and falls until they are sure they have gathered up all the crocs! So basically we took some photos of this lovely spot and then drove back again. We would really have loved a swim in the lake.
We have decided to do what remains of the journey to Darwin in 2 days so we are stopping at a place called Adelaide River tonight. That leaves less than 200K to go tomorrow. We took a detour off the Stuart Highway through the jungle as we called it. It’s very steamy and reminds us of a holiday in Indonesia. Lots of palms, ferns, banana trees but very little wild life which was a little disappointing. Anyway at Adelaide River we find a lovely grassy site with a lovely pool( adjacent to the railway line, behind the B P station!) very nice but VERY hot and humid. We are sweating off our proverbials!!! If we both had them!!!
