Canberra

Sunday,a mooch about day until the van fettler opens tomorrow morning. Forecast is good and we can still drive the van so we go into the city.We find a great place to park, smack on City Hill, next to the main shopping malls and street cafes. It's a very trendy sort of a place and reeks of money and what we are doing here is a mystery!Gave our best shot just mooching about, didn't buy anythig except a new pencil and rubber. Found an internet station in the middle of the Mall all touch screen and high technology to pay as we pick up emails. We are mesmerised. Had a very healthy lunch of pancackes, cream, icecream and maple syrup, coffee no sugar! Fed up with window retail therapy we go off for a bit of cultureand drive across the lake Burley bridge to visit parliament house and it's 80M flagpole. We drive round it, under it and saw it from various angles but din't quite manage to get there. Navigation gone to pot again. Parked up under the bridge and took a walk along the lake side and saw the Captain Cook Memorial, fascinating. Photos to follow. Then we drove back over the bridge to City Hill and some how managed to go round it and back over the bridge to Capital hill again......... a uturn to go back over the bridge for the fourth time...it's a very nice bridge! Eventually we find a car park and wander about some more until fortunately we bump into King O'Malleys Irish Pub. Back at base we look at the visitors brochure. We have missed a lot.
