M C G

The plan today is to steam up to Melbourne to watch a one dayer between Oz and N Z at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (M C G) Peter has always wanted to visit the famous cricket grounds and this is an opportunity to tick this one off plus seeing an International match.
We woke up a bit late and left Colac about 8 30,but made good time up thro Geelong and up to Melbourne. We were doing very well until road work diversions sent us the wrong way in the city. We had a bit if a tour round and got somewhere near the MCG, Peter getting twitchy as it's about 12 , and he thought we had missed quite a lot of the start of the game. Navigator was also getting a bit twitchy at not finding the place with the poxy map. Jumped out three times for directions, first, an East European, vaguely helpful, second an Asian lady in a shop but she was on her phone and then a chinese chap got us practically to the door. It would have been really helpful if there had been a few signposts! Eventually parked outside for $8 all day and rushed to the ticket office, only to find them not open yet as the game didn't start until 2 15 It was a Daynighter. We did wonder why there weren't many cars in the car park! We got in he ground as soon as it opened, for approx £15 each, why is it so expensive in the U K? Spent the day watching the game, moving from shade to sun as we felt the need. Watched the OZ innings but then had to go as we suspected we may have a bit of trouble getting out of Melbourne and we weren't booked into a site anywhere. What an understatement!! Directions from the parking attendant got us on our way, but at the second set of lights we were diverted and got hopelessly lost, well I always had a rough idea of where we were but every time we wanted to turn right, they wouldn't let us!It was getting to where we wanted to go that was the problem.( Exceptional navigational skills by the way, with an irate driver) The upshot was, 3 hours later, Peter was writing up his diary in the gloom in the layby in which we had decided to stop for the night. We can't understand why cars keep turning up and people come and go, we thought maybe it was a male voice choir as it was all chaps! I feel as tho I never want to see Melbourne again, Peter says wait until Sydney! We kept ourselves to ourselves and had to cook on the Aga as no mains electricity.
The following morning what an odd sort of a night that was, vehicles coming and going all evening until we went to sleep aroud 12 30. Very queer indeed!
