What a difference a day makes we had thunder storms overnight and woke up to rain. 45 degrees yesterday and 25 today. It's freezing! They are desperate for rain herein Victoria, tho we have had enough of it since we arrived. Tried to fire up the flip top but no joy,it's the only thing that won't fire up, so had a leisurely breakfast, cooked by Peter and George( he's a wee wonder!) waiting for it to stop raining but it doesn't look likely so we set off for a bit of a look round.Philip Island is twinned with the Isle of Wight, so it's not surprising we are staying in Cowes not far from Ventnor which is next to Wimbledon Heights, the other end of the island from Newhaven. Anyway we had a day trip to Rhyll would you believe. Before that we wandered around Cowes looking for an internet cafe. Tourist Info said it wasn't open on a Sunday but to try the Ten Pin Bowling alley. Fortunately their system was down as we couldn't have stood the noise! We are just about to give up when we find access in a camera shop. Not very private but just good enough for checking email, and we had some super pictures of the boys in the snow and also a picture of our cottage. Onto Rhyll, sat on the foreshore until it stopped raining and then went or a walk. 5K's later we have seen Ibis, Pelicans,Black swans, and other stuff in the Rhyll Inlet mangroves. A pleasant walk and a million flies also thought so. We had got used to very few flies in N Z but there are still plenty in OZ. Back at camp tried the internet kiosk a horrid thing without a proper mouse and you have to keep feeding it $2 coins. Managed a little blog before tempers frayed! We had even tried to fire this machine up in the same room but it couldn't find a signal.
Next day Monday Decide we really must try catch up with the blog, weather still uncertain so we don't mind being indoors. The internet cafe in Cowes was full and very busy and we didn't feel comfortable about sitting there for hours. We went of to Newhaven ,a very nice place but no cafe, so over the bridge to San Remo where there is an internet cafe, but it was closed! Back onto the Island to Cape Woolaima, where we have a spot of lunch and watch the surf "too big and messy" apparently! Our last resort ( no pun intended) is the Bowling alley in Cowes. This time we are in business, and as no one is bowling it's not too noisy. Music blaring away but no banging and clattering. 2 hours later we are still 5 days behind, square eyed but happier. Back to camp for a well earned beer, where it is sheltered and we can sit outside with our friends the flies.
