A walk up the river Kennett

Rained overnight AGAIN, grey and overcast, is there no end to it even the State Newspapers are asking "What has happened to our summer?" Had great fun feeding the parrots this am, they are really very tame and will feed from your hand when you happen to have bird seed in it. We have some great photos of both of us being mugged! After this feeding frenzy, we go back along the ocean road to Apollo bay,for a look see and a bit of shopping. It's a seaside town, quite touristy but still typically Australian and laid back. We stopped at every lookout point on the way back so now I'm sure we have the full set! The weather had improved enough to have a walk along the beach here at Kennett and then under the road bridge to follow the river up into the hills. A lovely walk, not another soul, varied bird life, lots of different coloured parrots, it smelt so clean and eucalyptasy and it was just beautiful. Also we could hear the koalas, as we had learnt that they snore, and also grunt and snuffle like a pig. If we hadn't been told it would have been quite alarming. It was quite loud because even Peter could hear it.
Back to base and the weather has deserted us again, and it's computer time one small blog and guess what it crashed. This when we finally lost patience with myspace, or as Peter calls it wasteofspace. Sent out an sos to our technical advisors save our sanity! It has suddenly dawned upon us that it is less than a fortnight until we go to New Zealand and so spend a couple of hours surfing the net for campers to hire in N Z.
Fri 19 Dec weather forecast for tomorrow and Sunday is good, warm Sat,hot Sun so we decide to stay put here as it has everything we want. Fri we still had had rain and wind in the night making the awning rattle. After consulting the map we decide we will have a drive up into the hills and forest to visit Otway fly Tree Top Walk.To get there we had to travel 17K along a very narrow forest track, Turtons Track, which was quite hairy. Halfway along we met raodworks, the road having slipped down the side of the mountain with all the rain!
The tree top walk was quite similar to the one we went to in Walpole, tho that seems months ago. I enjoyed it but was disappointed that we didn't see more bird life, probably the wrong time of day. There was a tower in the middle of the walk 47M high up a spiral staircace made you blow a bit by the top! Also the walk back to the visitor centre reminded me of cardiac hill! Needed the cappucino fix when we got there! Returned by the scenic route, navigator driving. Total trip about 120K just a short day trip in the grand scheme of things here in Australia. Back at the camp site it's starting to get quite busy as it's the start of the summer holidays.
