Camp Aussnatraz
After yesterdays heat and wind then calm warm evening this morning it is grey, dull and raining.Unbelievable! We had made our minds up to drive the 50K or so to Geelong to do a bit of shopping as there isn't much choice in Anglesea. We have to shop every 2 or 3 days as we only have a small fridge. We try to park at a shopping Mall on the outskirts of Geelong but it is complete mayhem, vehicles driving round and round looking for a parking place. One circuit and we gave up. Probably the right decision as it saved us getting lost again. We had come through a bigish town on the way Torquay and so we decided to go back to there but it was the same there really everyone doing their last minute Christmas shopping.Eventually found a spot and went and did the necessary 1doz bottles of wine and some veg!Torquay has several claims to fame, as has every town in Australia. Torquay is the SURF CAPITAL OF THE WORLD with Bells Beach( complete with a few Bruces) THE SURF BEACH CAPITAL OF THE WORLD there wasn't actually anyone surfing when we got there which has probably got something to do with the tide being out. Torquay is also the official start of The Great Ocean Road or in our case the finish. As there was nobody for us to join surfing, we did the next best thing and we went for a browse around a surf shop. We went in for a beach igloo to keep out of the wind came out with 2 beach towels and an umbrella which, 2 hours later we find is as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. If it lasts til Boxing Day we'll be very surprised. Back at camp Aussnatraz The sun is beating down through a force 9 gale so out come the shiny new black budgie smugglers, 2 new towels and the new umbrella and off to the beach. We try several spots to pitch our brolly but it keeps blowing away in the end we find a sand dune to hide behind and get sand blasted until it's time to come back for a beer. Peter did try a dip in the oolu but it's only 16 degrees and falling! Deep joy! Tomorrow we will do some washing as Jane thinks it will be a good drying day!
