Another grey morning and a hangover to match, have given up trying to blog at the camp and so walked into town to use the library service, trouble was they only gave us half an hour. Still feeling queasy walked home again. Had a look at the map and decided that fresh air was the cure so thought we would have a look at Childers Cove about 30K down the coast. The sun finally came out so , so did the shorts. A fabulous bay, no one there and so went for a paddle in the surf this is the absolute start of the Ocean road.
Tues 16 after yesterdays bit of sun it rained most of the night and woke again to grey skies, very depressing. Said our goodbyes to Steve and Jules who kindly donataed their kettle and toaster, they are at the end of their tour and are about to sell their van.We finally head off, looking forward to The great Ocean Road, but have to do a little shopping on the way out of town, including a visit to B and Q (Bunnings) for a new front door step that the Navigator broke. The one we have bought is good for 100K, but it turns out to be higher than the van step! Never mind! We are only heading as far as Peterborough,(not half way between Leek and Uttoxeter it's on the Ocean road) only60k but for the first 50 we can't see the ocean! Our first encounter with the sea is at the Bay of Islands, but as usual we can hardly see it for rain and mist. Can't believe this is happening to us but anyway we know what it looks like because we have bought some postcards. Whilst Peter was mooching about in the undergrowth, he came across an enormous snake--- well it was quite big and we have photos. We think it was a red bellied black and beat a hasty retreat when it woke up. At Peterborough the weather bucked up just enough for us to sit outside with a beer for an hour.
