Christmas in Aussnatraz!

Christmas Eve dawned a bit cloudy and we wondered which way the day would go. Wandered down into Anglesea for a few bits and pieces with the weather improving all the time then back to the van where Jane sets about washing, cleaning etc whilst Peter does the important stuff keeping abreast of world developments. "The Australian" is a very good newspaper. All jobs done after lunch we go to the beach( about 100M) for a spot of sunbathing. Not quite as windy and the umbrella managed to stay put. Back at the van we find we have new neighbours in a van similar to ours who turn out to be Swiss. Their English is as good as our french ( O level failed) so there's not much conversation. They seem to be very nice, but it does seem to us that these camp sites have a policy of putting foreigners together. Afterall we are capable of speaking Strine! A quiet evening waiting for Santa, when we wander to the ablution block it does seem funny to see caravans and tents bedecked with tinsel, flashing fairy lights and the occasional sign saying "Santa please call here".
Christmas Day Very odd not being at home, plus the sun is shining and it's very warm! Jane sang her carols in the shower( worked my way through "carols for Choirs") and got a compliment on emerging from the lady in the next shower. Then a lady from next door but 1 caravan brought us a plate of Christmas cake and wished us a merry Christmas. Lovely cake and a really touching gesture. Had a lovely call from Vanessa, tho of course it's still Christmas Eve in the U K. Tobi had been watching Father Christmas' journey on the computer and told us he had already been to Sydney!
We take a stroll down the beach to watch Santa arrive by surfboat. Quite a big crowd and loads of kids, as Santa is giving out bags of sweets. we didn't get any couldn't get past the kids! It reminded us a bit of the boxing day meet at Upton House where lots of people just mill about for ages, wish each other seasons greetings and then disperse down the pub. What was it all about?!! Back to the van, tried to get BBC on the computer, but as usual couldn't be done ( it wasn't broadband)so listed to our C D's then back to beach in the afternoon for a swim and a sunbathe. Another first for Peter a swim in the ocean on Christmas Day ( still too cold for Jane!) Spoiled ourselves a bit with big prawns, olives and honey roasted cashews before dinner, which was "scotch" rib eye steak done on the barbie by Peter ( yes, you read it here first!) mushrooms, onions and garlic and a baked (Microwaved) potato.
It's been a lovely lazy day, but we both agree that we have missed family and friends and the merry banter down the White Hart!
