I think the altitude has got to us after living at sea level for so long, as we felt decidedly sluggish all day! We left Shangri La (honest, that’s what it was called) mid morning and arrived back in time to order the mini bus to take us to the boat club for the afternoon, and it is a bank holiday!
Very little has happened in the last few months apart from the occasional social gathering and we have got into a nice routine. That all changed today. We had a phone call from Phil and Jules saying they will be back Wed or Thurs. We have guests arriving on Thursday, Hamish is flying up from Sydney on Wednesday, and Tricky Wilson and Ed Cruttwell are arriving in Cairns in their camper on Wednesday! Somehow we have to accommodate them all. Should be interesting.

It looks like we will be leaving Cairns after the weekend so today we set about loading up the van ready for lift off. The next few days could be a bit hectic with people coming and going, and of course we will need to get round everyone to say goodbye. We will also have to do a handover to Phil and Jules and the daily jobs around the units still have to be done. Hectic aint the word!

We were halfway through the morning and just about moved out and cleaned out of Phil and Julies unit when they suddenly turned up. We really thought they wouldn’t be here until tomorrow. Since then it’s been full on. We picked up Hamish from the airport just after mid-day, lunched at Palm Cove, then teemed up with Phil and Jules back at Clifton. Julie promptly called a happy hour (as only she can.) Those who could, attended, it was just like old times, lots of visitors!
The Barbie took its time as usual ….3 stubbies whilst the prawns cooked….perfect! We sat around drinking with our supper until late chatting with Hamish, Phil and Julie.

A strange start to the day with the usual sluggish felling first thing. Normally I would set about my jobs and work the lethargy off, but as I am now redundant I feel surplus to requirements Phil and Julie having taken over.
We had a date with Richard Wilson and Ed Cruttwell for lunch at Yorkeys, they have just a few hours up here before hand in their campervan back to the depot and are heading off on their journey back to the UK. Several phone calls were needed as we talked the two boys into the boat club. It was really a pleasure to see Richard and Ed, who have nearly acquired an Aussie tan, and are looking really well. Unfortunately we only had a short time in their company but we enjoyed listening to their travel stories, some of which will remain a secret! They have obviously had a bonzer time here in Oz.
We had driven to Yorkeys Knob so I had to stay off the beer, a return journey on the courtesy bus later seemed to be the thing to do. Hamish, Jane and I had a very nice meal in the boat club restaurant and luckily didn’t win any prizes in the meat raffle. Later we caught the free bus home and spent an hour or two reminiscing with Hamish trying desperately remember names of customers who used to used the Hart in the early 90’s, until we got brain ache gone midnight and went to bed.
