Still getting organised as once we leave Broome at the end of the month there isn’t much in the way of big towns until we get to the East Coast, a small matter of 4100K’s. So far we have seen the doctor at great expense, to reboot our prescriptions. Managed to get a few months supply of “happy” and “keep us alive” pills, so we have pencilled in Christmas! Whilst there is a reciprocal agreement between the U K and Aus, here you have to pay doctors fees, then claim some, not all, of it back. The crunch comes, at the chemist, just under £90 for a few drugs that we can’t even sell on to the backpackers on Cable Beach! Still, I don’t want gout and her doesn’t want a heart attack.
Apart from going about our tasks we are diligently going about our tasks.

Another hard day at the office, a bit of shopping followed by a lot of hours messing about in the surf on Cable Beach. It’s a wonderful beach and I misrepresented it when I called it a golden coloured beach, it actual fact it is beautifully white ------- why then are the Aussies obsessed with driving on it? Once the tide has gone out they are queuing up in their shiny white 4X4’s to drive down the ramp, then along the beach. Why?

More of the same, tho the shopping consisted of a visit to the second hand bookshop then to Australia’s equivalent of B & Q!
When we move further north into the wet season and humid tropics we need to have the van mosquito and bug proof so today our task was to buy the stuff to make the fly screen. We need to make up a shield to cover the side sliding, panel door so that we will be able to sleep with the door open. “This is our mission and we have a month to accomplish it if we choose to take it. “

Broome may well be a popular holiday resort for Ausies, but it also attracts a lot of foreign visitors, many of them backpackers. Mostly they are well behaved but there are a few who live on their wits and stealing is part of their craft. It doesn’t do to leave anything lying about that can be stolen and sold . We heard of a group of French backpackers who had set up their own web site with info on easy supermarkets, supermarkets that were easy to shoplift from. Some were caught, but as in the U K they were let off with a minimal fine and slapped wrists.
It is noticeable the number of different languages spoken on Cable Beach, not a lot of “Strine”, even East European. The world isn’t warming up, it is shrinking.
