Thurs 15 October… We took our empty cardboard boxes to the post office to find out whether they would accept them for posting. We got the right answer. We now have 2 tea chest sized boxes to be filled and sending them off is our next project.
Spent the afternoon at Yorkeys Knob beach topping up the tan.
You may find this hard to believe but we inherited a third of a bottle of gin from Mark Ashworth way back in February and haven’t touched a drop until now. The Navigator set herself the task of buying some Schweppes tonic and a lime, made some ice ( not easy in 32C heat) then treated herself to a G and T this evening. She said the first one was rather weak but still managed to tip some of the second one down her frontage! Peter stuck to VB
Fri 16 October… Managed to get our 2 tea chests posted at the second attempt. We were 1 Kg over the 20Kg limit on 1 box and would you believe half a Kg on the other. It meant we had to unseal them both to take out a couple of books to make the weight. This we did in the shopping mall car park, when a persistent fellow traveller decided to stop and have a chat. He was a bit of a pain but we did manage to sell him our awning fly screen for $50 ! Private Joe Walker would have been proud of us! After spending the morning packing and posting. A lie down by the pool seemed the thing to do, followed by a VB>
Sat 17 October… Just a day on Kewarra Beach working on the tan. Only 30 degrees today but the sea temp is a steady 26C. Read that the air temp in London is 14C-----leaping lizards------how will we cope???!!!
Sun 18 October… Went back up the coast to Ellis Beach which we have driven past a few times. A really nice beach, but the weather seemed to be on the change. Rather cloudy and windy so we came back and walked round to Jimmy’s Jungle Bar, overlooking Lake Placid for a couple of beers. Had a very pleasant hour listening to a band playing R and B mostly.
Mon 19 October… We thought the weather was on the change as it’s hammered down most of the day----very tropical, warm and wet. We spent all day in Cairns, we had gone there to pick up forwarded mail from Perth. 2 letters posted at the same time 10 days ago and only one has arrived. Unfortunately it’s the one from the Inland Revenue that hasn’t arrived yet.
We are waiting for the Van Man to email us so we know when to drop off the van. Then we will go into a motel for a few nights.
