Yorkeys Knob Eventually!!
Monday 21 September… There are several beaches north of Cairns, all within striking distance and all seem to be worth a visit. We looked at the map and decided to go to Yorkeys Knob, pretty much the nearest beach to us. Due to a minor navigational error we arrived at Crystal Cascades, another rain forest walk complete with waterfalls and swimming holes and very nice it was too, nowhere near the coast or beach of course! We thought we might as well have a look once we were there. Crystal cascades is another popular destination and quite spectacular. The river drops very steeply through thick rainforest from the hills above and into several deep swimming holes which looked difficult to get in and out of, and as we are supposed to be going to the seaside we didn’t bother to swim here. Retracing our steps and another demo on “righthand” “lefthand” ( this right or this right) we found our way to Yorkeys Knob and it’s lovely beach, where we did swim. We are in the middle of a heat wave apparently, though how we are supposed to know is baffling, it seems to have been like this for weeks, with just the odd blip when the temperature has plummeted by a couple of degrees. It’s a regular 30 C with very strong UV so we are slip, slap slopping and tanning nicely!
