Flying Fish Point
Wed 16 September… The intention today was a leisurely start and a short drive up the coast to Kurramine Beach, just north of Mission Beach and cassowary country. We visited the Mission Beach area here when we were up here at the end of June. That was when we saw our cassowary but no sign of him today. Mission Beach itself is not for us, bit too trendy and expensive, but there seem to be a few quieter spots along this coast, Kurramine being one. It looked ideal in the brochure so we were disappointed when we arrived, to find the place a bit scruffy. It wasn’t a nice beach and the campsite looked to be overpriced. We had a quick look at the map and decided to carry on to Innesfail and visit the Tourist Info office. There we were told of a nice campsite at Flying Fish Point, a few K’s out of town. We had already looked at it on the map and thought it looked a likely spot, the upshot is we are here for a couple of nights as it is a nice place. On arrival the camp commandant informed us that he sizzles a mean sausage and will be doing so during Happy Hour 5 to 7! We just had to go and watch, which had nothing to do with him being a cross dresser, we are only going for his sizzles! His hair looks permed, it is certainly dyed, and he has a wife who is Thai and has no chest, unlike him. Maybe more to follow!
