Return to Rainbow Beach
Mon 17 August … The general opinion was that Hervy Bay was O K but we wouldn’t rush back there. We have found many small and beautiful places so there is not much need to visit big towns except for essential supplies which are often cheaper. That’s the reason we have returned to Rainbow Beach, it’s small, very picturesque and has most of what we want. Gympie, the nearest big town is 70Ks away if there is anything we can’t get here. We all really enjoyed Rainbow Beach the last time we were here on our way north, 16 days ago. So we have booked in for 4 nights. The journey down took less than 2 hours and was across country, the roads being a bit rough. Vanessa’s van has an extension to the crack in the windscreen, bigger than when she started. We drove though mainly forestry all of which was pine. Not the most exciting scenery to look at. We arrived here before lunch, so after checking in we packed the eski, put on the budgies and headed for the beach, a 2 min walk. The temperature was in the high 20s just right for messing about in the surf. When we were here before the waves were big, today they are enormous and we all had great fun without any nose dives! As before the current and undertow were quite strong and the waves bowled you over whether you were ready for them or not! We have to take care. The next few days are chill out time for Vanessa and the boys as we reckon we all deserve a bit of a beach holiday as we haven’t had one since Heron Island!
