First full day on Heron Island

…..Thurs 6th August…. Our first full day on Heron Island which has been quite full. We managed our refresher course which went well though re realised how much we had forgotten and our skills were a bit rusty. The most difficult part was again getting into our wetsuits. We were out of the pool by 9am then spent half an hour getting out of our rubber goods, they are the worst we have ever worn! After breakfast the boys were desperate to go snorkelling as they have hired all the gear shortie wetsuits also. Its easy for them getting in and out of their gear but we had to start all over getting into our suits, what a struggle! Eventually we were back in the water and swam out onto the reef where we saw lots of stuff. We think the boys were thrilled. Went in the 2nd time on a not so good snorkelling area but it was good fun. After lunch we all walked round the Island on the beach, which takes all of 40 minutes. When we got back to the Jetty we stopped to watch 3 or 4 black tip reef sharks just below us and got some good close up photos. We also watched the helicopter land and take off with a few passengers, bet they weren’t sea sick! What was left of the afternoon we spent on the sunshine deck with a beer and a book, whilst the boys played in the swimming pool. We will try to stay awake through dinner!
