Townsville Beach

Tues 16 June… Breezy morning but bright and sunny with a forecast of 28 degrees s we reckon a day on the town beach would be the right thing to do. We have to shop first and chance our arm in a big shopping mall. Our track record in Malls is not good but we managed to escape from this one with no dramas. Our next job is to investigate the car parks somewhere near the docks, where the ferries go to Magnetic Island. There is a roll on roll off ferry which would take the van across, but it’s more expensive than the Isle of Wight ferry. No problem, we will be able to park on the quay , all day, for not a lot and go over as walk on passengers. We are staying around here for the rest of the week so there is plenty of time for the trip.
Onto the lovely sandy beach which is virtually deserted (where are all the Nomads?) the sea is flat calm so no surfing here. I’ve seen more waves in the bath! We park on the prom/The Strand and step straight onto the beach which is great, no lugging eskies and stuff when the van is only 2 mins away.
We quite like Townsville but it has it’s faults, it’s so noisy! What with the R A A F next door, jets, Chinooks and trainers taking off and generally buzzing about. Then there is a main road at the front of the camp with a lot of H G Vs and other traffic, then the railway line beyond that! Connecting to the internet is so slow it would send you to sleep if it wasn’t for the noise. But , Hey, the sun is shining and what does it matter!
