Sun 24 May… Woke up to rain which lasted a couple of hours, (Drought busters strike again) we still have the drought busters sign in the back window of the van which prompted one of our neighbours to ask “ when are you leaving?!” Still a bit of bad weather gave Peter the opportunity to do some small repairs in the van. It had stopped by lunch and so we decided to go to Cable Beach Takeaway and have calamari and fish and chips overlooking the ocean. After lunch we decided to go for a beer at the Roey, where we experienced the sand flies the week before. This time we sprayed up with Bushmans extra strong insect repellent before going in. As we sat having our beer we noticed that there was complimentary insect repellent on the bar. Navigator said “all they need to do now is give away free antihistamine tablets with every two pints!” A sand fly bogoff!
We should have been moving on tomorrow but we are staying until Wednesday now it’s really difficult to leave Broome!
Mon 25 May…. Another lovely day but we now know it is time to leave. Broome is filling up with holiday makers some have flown up here over the weekend, others have spent pulling their caravans from where ever. The next 3 months are Brooms’ busiest time of the year, due to near perfect weather conditions. Cable beach was a lot more crowded today, lots of European uni students, in their cheap and cheerful V W’s and Wicked Camper vans, living on a shoe string, camping in the car parks and avoiding the wardens. They all appear to have the obligatory surf boards on the roof. We have spent the day stocking up with essential supplies and replacing a folding chair which decided to fold itself into something else. An afternoon on the beach, where we were surrounded by a group of French students who pissed us off by invading our space. There was loads of room on the beach as the tide was going out but they decided they wanted to be about 2 feet from us!
Back at camp the sites have filled up fast----time to move on.
