Oh Dear what can the matter be?

Wed 22 April…..here we are in Katherine which should be called Cane Toad town. There were hundreds hopping about the camp last night , some very big ones too. Apparently the way to deal with them is to put them in a plastic bag, tie it up, and put it in the freezer overnight! That puts them to sleep for ever. Peter has another idea! To freeze the number that were around last night , you would need the city morgue. A nine iron springs to mind.
We are having another get things done day,….well that was the plan, did some computerating before setting off for lunch/ picnic at some thermal stream which was good fun. The water was quite warm but nothing like the thermal pools in New Zealand. They were thermic! Peter had occasion to use the public convenience which is also a shower and changing room, built of steel for some reason. Anyway the door jammed shut with him on the inside, and no amount of abuse would open it. Navigator ran off to a school across the way and came back with the caretaker and his screwdriver, eventually releasing him! It was all a bit embarrassing, but not the first me it’s happened apparently. On the way home we stopped at the ATM for some cash only to find that it wouldn’t give us any! Both our cards have been blocked so here we go again, no bank cards, no money. Drove back to camp to phone the bank in the U K ….. no phone! Drove back into town to a phone box and when we get through the message says that the office doesn’t open for another 1 and a half hours. Drove back to camp and waited in the swimming pool for an hour. Drove back into town ( 6 Ks) Another frustrating conversation with India! Eventually we are told it is ok and our cards are unblocked. Back to the ATM. Navigators card works, Peters doesn’t! Same account! Back to the phone box. After speaking to several people we are assured that his card will work. By this time we can’t be arsed….it’s time for a beer back at camp. It transpires that HSBC have issued us with new cards and sent them to Shipston . They have cancelled the cards we have been using as they posted them 2 days previously. All in all a frustrating day as things come in threes, what next?! Not much done so we have to delay our trip to the seaside for another day.
