Mon 27 April….. We are not confident about driving very far without a spare wheel ( lots of outback folk carry 2 spares) so we will have to stay local until tomorrow when business is back to normal. We intend to stay here one more night and then really go for it to Broome 1,042Ks. We have enquired about day trips to the Bungle Bungles and Peter is desperate to go and see them, but the price is astronomical. It’s a $600 day for a 4WD trip and $1200 for a 30 min flight there is no way in in a 2 wheel drive vehicle such as ours. We have to come back from Broome this way so maybe in a few weeks time??!!!
We took a ride to Ivanhoe Crossing a few Ks out of town. It is a causeway with about a metre of water going over it still and is closed still to 4WD.We watched a couple of guys fishing for barramundi and actually saw one caught but it got away. The one bloke was using a throw net to catch small fish to use as live bait. Must remember that when our sea fishing trip to Cornwall comes up. Use a net to catch the mackerel boys! One chuck of the net catches enough bait to fish all day. Next we went for lunch by Kununurra Lake and the Pilot had a swim. This lake too has fresh water crocs in it but nobody seem to take any notice. It’s the salties that are the problem.
Back to base and another swim in the pool, then we watched the bloke next door wash and polish his truck, it was cleaner and shinier than our before he started! We bet he lives on an estate.
Waiting for Kununurra to open
