Sunday 25 Feb

Time to leave Lakes Entrance and move East towards N S W.A very nice morning and a vaery nice place. we do a bit of shopping before leaving and get a couple of good deals....2 slabs of VB for$66 as opposed to $80, and we have a coupon that gives us 20c of a litre of diesel which saves us $12! Probably neither will last long!We plan to free camp tonight providing the site we have earmarked on the map is up to scratch. As it's only about 100K we can afford to go by the scenic route. The main route is the Princes Highway but there are a few minor roads that take you down to the coast. We pass through places with very strange sounding names like Nowanowa, Tostaree and Newmerella which sounds as though it should be a sandwich spread! At a lovely small town of Orbost we turn off to go to Marlo which is a few houses, a jetty and a boat ramp. Very pretty. We watch a chap gut some bream he has caught and throws the heads and guts to the pelicans. After a spot of lunch we follow the coast road( very narrow)along to a tiny place Cape Conran. Another smashing place with hardly anyone there. We think it's a pity we are not allowed to camp there. After a bit of a paddle we head back up the track thro Cabbage tree creek and back onto the highway. Soon after we arrive at the site we have chosen,it has an electric barbeque, free, and a deep drop dunny..you don't have to know anymore! There is a Rainforrest walk of about 45mins on which we spot one or two different birds and lizards, some massive Kanooka trees(gum trees) and so far there isn'tanother soul to be seen.
