Decided to retrace our steps as Peter had done most of the driving and missed parts of the Ocean road plus we had really enjoyed being at Kennett River with it's Koalas ans parrots. The plan is to spend a couple of days there, get the body boards out and have a couple of days on the beach in the sun.Managed to find our way out of Melbourne without any hitches( very skillful navigation!) Peter has decided that we need a small barbeque of our own so we stop on the way to hunt for one.No luck and then it started to rain. On a bit further to Torquay stopped for lunch and watched the sea har coming in! At the very start of the Ocean road just outside Torquay, it's headlights and windscreen wipers! After the 40 degrees at the weekend here at Kennett river it's wet, foggy and cold about 19degrees. Cooking indoors helps keep the van warm.THe whole of OZ is gripped in a heatwave and the Rileys have this sh-----t! Kennett River still has it's wildlife, the parakeets are a joy, later in the evening we hear the koalas grunting and snoring like an old sow,and Kookaburras are giving some chuckles. We can also hear the surf crashing on the beach.
Wake up to a grey misty damp morning and it doesn't look like clearing. Beach out of the question and so go shopping in search of a barbecue. Peter also has an appmt for more anti gout pills with a Dr in Torquay so we try to combine the two. Unfortunately the doc ( who only sees 10 patients a day) is running about 2 hours late so this gives us time to run up to Geelong to a big mall (oh no!) however we are now the proud owners of a George Foreman Gorilla and hob. The Doc was a bit odd blaming the ills of the Brits on their diet. It was actually sunny in Torquay but as we approach Kennett we see that it is still shrouded in mist and chilly. However we discover that our new neighbour hail from Alvechurch and he is a hairdresser. A beer and $10 later Peter looks like a convict again. Peter experimented with his new toy and it worked a treat, no black smoke or fire, cooked steak a treat.
Next day another grey miserable morning seems to have weather of it's own it must be due to the mountains behind it. Struggled with the computer in the morning( their fault not ours) but then the sun came out at lunchtime and we went over to the beach for a frolic in the surf. All good fun but the navigator struggling to stay in her bikini, all things going north and south!Back at camp we find it amusing to watch new campers wandering about looking up into the trees, clutching their cameras and generally bumping into things. It's spot the koala time! The George Foreman Gorilla is a success once more, when peter cooked a half chicken, which looked a bit like a squashed cat run over by a truck, but tasted like chicken. Had an interesting evening talking to an old boy who was staying on the site. An Ozzie, who's Dad came from Bearley, a long time ago! A lovely old boy.
