Orewa Beach

After a horrid brekky of a bacon fritter, (really greasy) we were picked up and taken to the camper van place. Did the admin, seems O K tho smaller than ours in OZ, and so set off to do some shopping.Negotiated the Mall O K but then spent an hour driving round trying to find our way out of Auckland to the north. A little hampered by the fact we haven't got a map! When we did find highway 1 north, we joined the rest of Auckland leaving the city. Decided to just do a short journey and so about 2 hours later we arrived at Orewa Beach, and got the last available place on the camp. The place is bursting at the seams. We unpacked our gear and stowed it away, and found that we had a place for everything, more or less, but we just have to be very tidy. Inspected the beach (Big and sandy), back for some snap and then settled down for New Years Eve. There is a real holiday/party atmosphere about the place and we have decided that we are very glad to be here in New Zealand.
Everybody seemed to be partying, fairy lights, music,a few fireworks. One tent had a standard lamp which reminded us of Mystic meg, and behind us was a big family party where they played daft games. This the first camp we have come across with a P A system, and their own Gladys Pugh didgeridoo instead on xylophone! Classic line "this evening campers there will be karaoke on the barbecue.
