Mahia Peninsula

We have only moved about 50K north to mahia peninsula which is the northern most part of Hawkes Bay.We stopped in town on the way to buy some provisions and essentials at the bottlo. Weather rather cloudy as we take our time. Went round the top end of the peninsula to watch some guys surfing. Pretty impressive mostly people seem to just fall off but these boys could do it. Book into our camp beach just across the road and the sun came so time for a swim. There is a friendy dolphin in the bay which people are swimming with, but it was just a stride too far for us. Our nieghbours turned out to be a surprise, 2 girls with several kids, one of them grew up in Macclesfield and went to college at Moreton Morrell, a small world!
It dawns on us that this camp is a complete shit heap! The showers are antique and the ownwers don't have the hot water turned on all the time the toilets were disgusting not cleaned, and there was a burst water pipe nearby which was a haven for mosquitoes. The girls next to us wouldn't use the toaster in the camp kitchen it was so filthy, and yet again the promised WIFI was a disappointment. Couldn't wait to get away.
By contrast our next site,Bay View has everything you could ask for,(except Wifi)! It is 8K north of Napier and the journey down was as stunning as ever. We stop for luch by a quiet lake , Lake Tutira just us and the black swans. The beach at Bay View is 200M awy across route 2 and the railway line. once you negotiate these there is a black shingle beach and enormous surf, It is a surf casting beach which means the only thing that goes in the water is a lump of lead,a hook with a worm on it and a fishing line. All that sea and we can't get in it!
