Stupid heat today, 42c and not a day to be spent packing to leave when the world famous Cottisloe beach is just down the road. Whatever, it had to be done and thank goodness we have sent stuff home or the plane would never have taken off. By lunchtime we were so hot and bothered we gave ourselves the rest of the day off and drove into Freo. We ought to know better, but we do love the atmosphere at Little Creatures so paid a visit and paid $10 a pint, again. Anyone visiting Freo has to come here. It’s a huge barn of a place, and the staff who work very, very hard seem so happy doing their work. They also dress in the most bizarre way you can imaging, bordering on scruffy. There are no airs and graces here in Oz and it’s great.
Still haven’t got our heads around the fact that tonight is our last night in the van, so sad. I wish we could go around again.

How can you get so emotional about parting with a couple of tons of steel that has a wheel on each corner?… We did today.
Everything we haven’t been able to sell we gave to the Salvo’s who were only too pleased to take it and pass it on to some poor deserving souls. And there must be some! As I may have mentioned before, this is the most expensive city we have ever visited in the world. Well it is if you drink!
Before we dropped off the van we successfully negotiated Perth city centre and by a fluke managed to park outside the front door of the hotel whilst we unloaded our luggage into their locker. Then, later, checked in.
We have far too much luggage, lots more than we started with, and have had to buy another holdall type bag making three bags to go in the aircraft hold and two in the cabin. I possess 6 T shirts, a fleece jacket, 3 pairs of shorts, 2 pair of trackie bottoms, a pair of walking shoes, some undies and socks……..a Tesco bag full. So who’s is the rest? I have packed and re- packed and hopefully we won’t be over weight at Perth International, but, if we are, I expect my jacket will have to go!
At the moment we are quite chilled ( despite a 41c heat wave ) and have wandered around calling in to a couple or three pubs in the city this evening. Ridiculous prices for schooners or pints and I did mention to one or two barmen that not everyone works in the f……g gold mines.
We have had a very nice meal in our hotel restaurant and smuggled a bottle of Penfolds Koonunga Hill Cabernet Merlot, bought from the Bottle-o, up to our room and are giving it our best attention. What we spent on a few schooners this evening we could have bought a bloody case of the stuff.
Hey ho, won’t be long before we are sampling those marvellous Marlborough Sauvy Blancs.
