Goodbye Nullabor

 31/1/2013
A very big drive today, over 700ks to the town of Norseman. ‘Gateway to the Nullarbor’, it  says in the brochure, as if it is something special! Gateway to a whole lot of nothing we say. There is one particular section of the highway that boasts being the longest straight road in Australia, and it probably is. Just imagine driving in a dead straight line for 146 kilometres with nothing to see but scrub, not even a tree. At one stage we were held up behind two monster machines,(most likely destined for the mines at Kalgoorlie,) being carried along on transporters at a very slow speed. No chance of passing as they took up the width of the road. Luckily they only held us up for about 20ks then pulled in to a roadhouse.
Anyway it’s done, we have crossed the Nullarbor and are entitled to a certificate to prove it. If I ever see it again it will be from 35000ft in the air.
Here in Norseman we are knackered. We will have a few beers, (all we have left), sausage, egg and beans because that also, is all we have  left, for supper and an early night. The shopping will wait until tomorrow.

  1. On the bright side imagine the plight of the first European explorers...no fridge...so no beer...no vehicles...so no roadkill to fill their tuckerbags ! Nearly there...37C in Perth !
