It’s been good to have a drive free day and not having to do too much, but the bit of a plan we had this morning went pear shaped. The bloke in the office told us the best time to buy oysters from the oyster sheds, a kilometre up the road was between 10am and 1 pm. Off we went, anticipating fresh oysters and a bottle of sauvy blanc. What he forgot to tell us was the oyster season finished 2 weeks ago…….bugger!
We have outrun the storms that have devastated the east coast, unless they change course, but that’s not likely. It’s hard to imagine all the towns we travelled through in the last 2 weeks are now under water. Rockhampton, Gladstone, Bundaberg, Coffs Harbour are all places we stayed at or travelled through. Below that , in Victoria and where we are now in South Australia, there are still bush fires, we have done well (so far!) to avoid it all. The strong wind we are sheltering from eased during the night but is back to yesterdays strength this evening. We can’t wait any longer, we will go for it tomorrow with an early start.
Outback humour !!! Can't ignore it when your literally in the middle of nowhere...suppose it gives them a giggle to see us townies from the east...or north in your case...going on a wildgoose chase ! Hope better food tomorrow...and less flies. Enjoy the rest of your Birthday Pete.
