Moving

 30/11/2012
Two of our friends, Kevin and Joan Ranger are going away tomorrow for three weeks and they have asked us to house sit for them. As we are already committed to looking after the Macnamara’s we had to decline. What we are doing though is looking after their pool and gardens going round there every day. So today, after mowing some of the grass here at the Mac’s we popped round to the Rangers to have a look at what’s to be done. Theirs is the beautiful house set up on the side of a very steep hill from where we watched the eclipse and where we have been to a couple of parties. The house is actually next door to the Mac’s so it will be just a case of crossing over the creek ( dry ), climb the hill and get on with the work. Wouldn’t mind doing this for a living.

We spent most of the day with the Macnamaras going over, once again, the jobs we will be doing when they are away. It isn’t a full time job but there is a lot to do and quite a responsibility with a cat ( Ginge ) to look after also. There are three enormous mango trees here as well as various other fruit trees, but right now there are literally tons of mangos which drop constantly and need to be cleared daily or they just lie there and ferment. There are only so many mangos you can eat so we thought we may put them out front for people to help themselves.
The day ended with a BBQ and several stubbies in Paul’s pub

Again we are invited up to the Macnamara’s, this time to meet the neighbours, they need to know who we are as we will be coming and going over the next few weeks.
It will be nice to have some privacy as where we are at Phil and Julies, slap bang in the middle of the yard, feels like living in a goldfish bowl, but we are not complaining.
Paul has given us the use of one of his vehicles, it’s an estate car, I think a Holden, anyway it’s shiny white. He also keeps telling me where the car washing kit is!!
The pub/bar is electronically alarmed and requires a code to be punched in to set and unset the alarm. I have tried to memorize the number to no avail as it’s some historical date and I have always been crap at history.
Later, back at the units we took a traveller over to the beach and sat looking at the moon and the ocean. There won’t be too many more times we will be able to do that as it’s too far to walk to the beach from the Macs. We will miss that, it’s so peaceful sitting listening to the sound of the ocean with a stubbie, it’s so idyllic.

The van is packed ready for our move up to Paul and Lorraine’s and once there we probably won’t use it again for a few weeks. Unless of course we decide to go off for a night, but then we will have to find someone to feed Ginge.
It is getting extremely hot as summer has officially arrived, in the south that is, we have all year round summer up here so this morning we stayed in the pool until time for our weekly excursion to the boat club for a coldie or few.
Now we are parked in the yard at the Mac’s and have had a bit of a session with them and some more of their neighbours plus their daughter and son-in-law a guy I had a good chat to. He has travelled extensively and knows our part of the UK quite well.
We will sleep in the van tonight and move into the house in the morning…..all that space

Culloden! That’s it! The code for the pub is the year of the battle of Culloden,.. really must write it down.
Paul and Lorraine set off on their travels just after 9am as we set about moving our stuff out of the van and into the house. Then we sort of pottered about around the yard, watering and picking up palm fronds that are always falling off and littering the place. We spent some time learning about the dozens of light switches and what they all operate, how to work the cinema size TV screen and which key fits what. We did find time to try out the pool, the water being much cooler than the pool at the units as the whole thing is covered by a huge sail keeping it shaded nearly all day.
Around sundown we toasted our good fortune with a real quality bottle of champagne ( 8 bucks) followed by several beers and a Barbie on the deck of Paul’s pub.
Tonight we are in a proper bed, we just need to get there before Ginge. He prefers the bed to the bath, where he usually sleeps. All I have to do now is make sure the pub is secure…………Culloden???
