Plan B (or is it C?) takes effect from today as we have decided to sit out the first week of the school holidays here in Marions house. All the seaside resorts are very busy and there aren’t too many places inland from here, north that we haven’t already been to. So, we will stay here until next Monday when there will be just one week of the holidays to go. After that we will be able to mooch anywhere we like.
It appears we are wanted men! We have committed the heinous crime of driving on a Toll motorway without paying, ( I just drive where I am told ). We know this because we have had a phone call from K B Campers, the dealer we bought the van from in Perth, telling us they had had a demand for a fine levied against us here in Brisbane The demand had gone to Perth as the van is registered with them. I bet they never had this trouble tracking down Bonnie and Clyde, but then, I suppose she wasn’t such a crap navigator!

There is a food market held every Wednesday in the city with stalls selling goodies from all over the world. German sausage, French bread, Japanese sushi(t) are just a few of the nations represented. We would have loved to stock with all sorts of stuff but carrying it up cardiac hill would have been a bit of a trial. For lunch we could have had Vietnamese dumplings, bread cooked as a tube with different coatings, noodles, but we were intrigued by the braised mushroom , from the stall that sold only mushrooms. The mushrooms were served on a bed of couscous (that had currants and spices in) with half an avocado and sour cream. Delicious!
The fruit on display looked to be really good quality and cheap but again we had to consider the weight of it to carry home. We ended up buying some extra virgin Australian olive oil and some locally grown peanuts which we can’t stop eating as we sit on the deck with our early evening beer. Only occasionally do we sit out late as there is often a cool wind in the evening. We do need to get further north.

Odd jobs and an essential supply run is all we have done today. I repaired some of the fencing that secures the basement under this old Queenslander house then drove out to see good old Dan Murphy.
We are having Rainbow Trout for our evening meal, the only fish we have so far found here that we can get in the Northern Hemisphere. It will no doubt be farmed but that’s ok. We love the fish here but miss some of the varieties we get at home…….Can’t get prawns in the UK as good as here though!
