So here we are on the road again after a fantastic 6 or so months at Clifton beach. I expected our departure to be quite emotional, but we got away nearly dry eyed. Allen and Lorraine popped round just as we were setting off so we had to go through it all again after saying our goodbyes to Phil and Jules.
We had a few errands to do around Cairns so by the time we had done all that we finally started up the range to the Tablelands well after lunch.
Every thing seemed to be going to plan which always makes me suspicious, all the things we needed from various shops we got and we were well stocked.
Our first stop is here at the historic village of Herberton, a place we have stayed before. Pulled in the caravan park put the awning up, the new chairs which are very comfortable, ……..all good…..then the fridge stopped working. It’s dead.
Next up, we can’t get the gas to flow through to the cooker. I just knew things were going too well. So, tomorrow we may have to go back down the range to Cairns to get the fridge repaired or get a new one. At least the beer hasn’t got too warm, it had chilled while the fridge worked and besides it’s bloody freezing up here at altitude. We are both in long trousers this evening. It’s looking like an early night tonight!

With no gas and no fridge there is no way we are moving away from civilisation until everything is good so we spent the morning in Atherton trying to organise tradies to come and deal with our problems. First the gas man cometh, a man from Solihull, (dunno how he got to us so quick) and 200 bucks later the van has a new regulator and a gas supply. Messages left on the fridge magicians phone never got answered but we found a Auto electrician who is going to check out the power supply tomorrow. It’s a big job as the fridge is built into the kitchen units so will take some time. If it’s an electrical problem we could be on our way in a day or so, if it’s a refrigeration fault we will definitely have to go back to Cairns. Mind you it will be good to go down from here if only for a warm, the temperature goes below 20c at night.
We are on a different campsite than last night, closer to Atherton, but it’s one of those camps we used to get so frustrated with who boasted they had WI-FI but it never worked. It’s not a problem now we have our magic gizmo that gets us on to the internet but we tried the camps free WI-FI and it was crap as always. You win some, you lose some!
