Getting on with things

  17/01.2012
Still trying to catch up with the blog and photos. We uploaded more than 170 photos stretching back before Christmas. Next we need to put them into albums to send home.
We are now into the hum-drum of caretaking dealing with the little things that go wrong such as the hot water problem in one of the units, which the electrician fixed today.  I now know how to change the cord on the whippy snipper and am in the process of changing the blades on the lawnmower, all jobs that need to be done occasionally. None of these jobs take too long giving us plenty of free time. Once we are on top of things and the blog is sorted there is nothing to stop us going off in the van for a night, we are pretty much our own boss.
We set off to hike along the beach up to Palm Cove for a beer at Apres, but 20 mins into the journey we found the tide had cut us off, where a creek runs into the sea, and so we had to turn round and go back. We would have had to set off again on the shore path…….but we didn’t bother, the call of a few coldies in our fridge got the better of us. ….maybe tomorrow.
We are still getting visits from a family of bush stone curlews, Mum, Dad and 2 growing chicks. It’s fascinating watching Mum pick up a mealy worm then drop it under one of the chicks nose for the little one to snaffle. Mind you, at 12 bucks a tub it won’t be long before they all fend for themselves. Probably the most expensive worms in the world.!

Our weather is very indifferent now, the only constant is the temperature which remains around 31C only dipping when we get a monsoon which isn’t often. It keeps threatening, dark clouds and all that, but nothing happens.
I had coffee with the boys this morning, Allen, Paul and Frank, putting the world to rights . They seem to have the same issues as we do in the U K .
The inevitable happened later when Jane and I were in the shopping mall, we bumped into my niece and her daughter. They have been here for some years, my brother followed later. We had a few strained moments then we went on our way. I suppose we will meet again at some point.
Spent more time on the shiny thing doing blog and photos until beer o’clock. Early evening we wandered over road to Clifton Capers Bar and Restaurant for a beer. We know the owner and the staff  but we won’t be making a habit of going there as their prices are a bit steep. Anyway they are closing for 6 weeks shortly as the whole of Northern Queensland seems to shut down during the wet. Mid summer and there’s nobody here!
